Things are about to get colorful.

2019 color forecasts are out and we’re excited to see a resurgence in brighter colors. According to Sherwin-Williams’ Director of Color Marketing you can “expect to see not only more color, in the coming year, but color pushing the boundaries as a shift from the popular minimalism trend of late.” These forecasts aren’t just for paint colors, either, as you can see in our own 2019 color forecast swatches [pictured]. Our team is having fun with these bright modern colors and throwback palettes, too.

Color of the Year 2019

Speaking of throwbacks, say hello to Cavern Clay, Sherwin-Williams’ color of the year for 2019. Cavern Clay is a warm terracotta color—a nod to mid-century modern style with a touch of the American Southwest. “We believe 2019 will be a renaissance of the 1970’s—with a twist… Our 2019 color of the year, Cavern Clay, embodies renewal, simplicity, and free-spirited bohemian flair,” said Sherwin-Williams’ Director of Color Marketing.

Pantone Finds Inspiration in Food

Sherwin-Williams isn’t the only company with a say in 2019’s color forecast. Pantone, the color consultancy group behind the Color of the Year, has created two palettes inspired by what they call ‘Fetish Foods’, predicted to be in homes everywhere in 2019.

“Cravings”

This vibrant ‘Cravings’ palette features gorgeous reds, sweet flamingo orange, and deep purples. These colors are at the heart of the resurgence of brighter colors we mentioned above. Think statement furniture, accent walls, and rooms brought to life through the brightness of color. We are excited to add the colors of this palette in homes and even to some office spaces daring to be different.

“Classico”

For the more mysterious we pull colors dubbed ‘Classico.’ These hues are more elegant, giving a nod to the foundations and fundamentals of style. Think deep teals, gray flannels, burgundy reds, and caviar blacks. We can see this coming to life in smaller spaces like a powder room, breakfast nook, or guest room. BEHR paints recommends their BLUEPRINT S470-5 to really make a statement.
